pretty

Hey guys! The English major in me comes out again…these are powerfully written words!

Love the lines about women not knowing how to wear joy.

(This does contain one F-word, FYI!)

I’m so thankful that my own mom never pressured me to look a certain way.

Yet even still, beauty (or my self-perceived lack of) has controlled too much of my self-perception and my checkbook in these 25 years of life.

It’s hard to let go of that, isn’t it?

I’m not saying that the pursuit of beauty is wrong — let me tell you, braces and dermatologists were a huge blessing to my high school self! I think it’s vital for a woman to do what she can reasonably, healthfully do to feel beautiful. I think it’s vital for women to strive for health, the foundation of beauty.

Embrace your beauty, own it, yet don’t define yourself by it…how is that line walked, exactly? (It’s probably impossible, because we’re in a fallen world. No poem or healthy-body-ad-campaign will fix it.)

Thanks to my friend MB for sharing!

Amazing. That seriously gave me chills.

Oh Lord, I am so not ready for my girls to ask those sorts of questions. Not yet.

    • I’m afraid of myself putting pressure on my future daughters, more then them asking those questions!
